Receiving a phone call from Solaire asking for an interview did not prevent me from grabbing the opportunity because I knew they would provide me enough experience to cope with the business practices used today. Solaire Resort and Casino is known to be the world class integrated organisation.
Despite being a Management major, I was assigned to the Finance Department specifically in the General Ledger Team. My first day was a bit uncomfortable since I was surrounded with people who are most likely 5-10 years older than me, but they all treated me as part of the team. I was grateful to meet some people who are sitting in a high position in the company. They were all approachable and friendly.
I took part in Solaire's financial activities that intimidated me so much like monitoring each team's (e.g. Financial Reporting Team, Fixed Assets Team etc.) financial reports, filing reports and vouchers, encoding and updating databases of suppliers using applications in addressing complex business requirements, bookkeeping and lastly tagging hotel rooms. For me, being appointed in the finance department is the first and most crucial job I ever experienced since you have to be careful with everything and also, that was the time that Solaire was preparing their financial statements. Even though I got to deal with tough tasks like these, I got to reward myself by going to the hotel's dining area with some interns and collegues in my department and enjoy the company's buffet. After leaving Solaire, I was delighted that Mr. Arcan Lat, the Financial Director, told me to give him a call and he will be offering me a job in Solaire.
Overall, I can say I had a wonderful experience being an intern at Solaire Hotel and Casino because it gave me a high level of maturity.
